Brunswick introduces the Crown 78U, giving bowlers a new urethane option approved for use in most USBC national competitions. In addition to these regulations, Brunswick recognizes the use of harder urethane balls on tougher tournament patterns and for high rev rates. They developed a new urethane ball with more flare potential and more dynamic numbers to meet the needs of those bowlers. The new Crown 78U features the Tiered Hexagon core shape from the Crown Victory, a higher RG and medium differential core, providing bowlers with an option not currently available on the market. The harder 78 durometer urethane cover has limitations that a more dynamic core helps alleviate, creating a new level of ball motion option for bowlers using urethane.

    Brunswick Crown 78U

Posted by Bob Newman on Jan 6th 2026

Brunswick has added a PBA legal urethane option to the lineup. It has the tiered hexagon core which means this urethane ball will flare. I practiced on a THS and threw the Purple Hammer, Black Hammer Pearl, and Crown 78U to get a feel for where this ball fits. I only have about 3-4 boards difference between the three balls with the Crown 78U fitting right in the middle. It is a little later but a little more angular down lane than the Black Pearl. As you know with urethane, carry is key and that little more angular can make all the difference. This will be a good piece to have in your tournament arsenal, especially on short oil patterns .
